The brief asked for an environment to be created that must be based from a novel. I choose Robin Hobb's "The rain wild chronicles". To create Cassarick, a village built in the middle of a large forest inhabited by tree living folk. Buffeted by heavy rains and wild animals, space is limited among the tree village and every one must play their part to survive. My goal for this design was to highlight how each platform provided a function to the village as a whole. A low tiered platform designed for construction and thus lowest to the ground, a residential platform that was cramped and makeshift. Finally the Trader hall, a sole pillar that connects all platforms and thus provides all function.

In the following link you can see a more in-depth portfolio of how the scene was created and the challenges that I stumbled upon and overcame. Feel free to send me any comments or ideas you may have via my email address which you can find at the bottom of this page.

This project began as a brief set by Robin Sloan in a module called Spatial Constructs which set out four briefs for us to choose from, I choose Adaptation as I wanted to discover what were the challenges involved with adapting novels into games. A lot of what I read has been transformed into a video game such as the Halo book series and Oliver Bowden's Assassin's creed series which was inspired by the 1938 novel Alamut by Vladimir Bartol. It was also a test of my production, design and artistic skills as creating and building each asset within the scene took a long time but I've had very positive feedback on the piece and best of all I got an A+ on the project. Which may not mean much to you (the reader or prospective future boss...) but remember rewards come in many shapes and forms.
