My responsibilities on Cat Dash by Blu Circle

The brief I/we were given was named Catagotchi. The brief was designed by Abertay challenge which was a workshop for diabetic kids to come in and tell what they would like from an app of game. Our brief was at first to design a game or app that taught users how to work out the math problems encountered in their lives related to diabetes such as how much insulin should they take when eating a chocolate bar. Yet after speaking with our client Dr Vicky Alexander, she informed us that she wanted a game that educated kids and teens, how simple actions such as going for a run or stressing for a test has a major effect upon their diabetes. For the brief a team of seven were put together this consisted of five disciplines; Game design, Production, Art, Sound and Programming. My role was to be the producer and the team leader for the group.

As with any project working with people, relationships begin to form and during my time with Blu Circle my position involved similarities as the producer role but the key difference I would say was, that I was the team's sounding board. Throughout the project duration I was asked to speak with members privately about issues and concerns they had related to project, university but also personal issues that were affecting them. I took it upon myself to help them the best way I could by offering advice or directing them to the right people within university who could offer support.
